First Birthday

Yesterday was Jacob's first Birthday. He really likes chocolate cake and ice cream. His Gram got him a lazy boy chair and the all important old English "D" Tigers gear. Aunt Bren and family gave him all we would need to go to the beach including three beach balls (a favorite around here.) Grammy gave Jacob a spinning top that he is fascinated by and stacking blocks. Aunt Jennifer gave Jacob a pelican that talks when you drag it behind you, it also collects balls. We all had fun celebrating this very important day. As soon as the cake was on the table he was grabbing for it. We had to quickly blow out the candle. Both Rich and I feel he is adjusting well. The Doctor really liked Jacob and thought he looked in good health. They took a lot of blood and he was such a good boy for the nurses. We should have the results in a couple of weeks.

Just a quick question for families that have their little ones home. Did you receive medical records or any documents that detailed the vaccinations your child had been given?

Oh he is just precious!! Happy birthday!

To answer your question, yes we recieved a detailed medical report along with vaccination record. Even though Hope had vaccines in Russia, we are opted to start over with all vaccines. Our dr advised us to do that since sometimes the vaccines there are not as effective as they are here. Hope will begin her vaccination schedule in a few weeks. Hope that answers your question. :)

Congrats again!

How awesome that you all got to have his first birthday together as a family.

We did get detailed medical info for our son which included all of his vaccinations. Unfortunately, his doctor (I still love her) would not accept these records. So, he was given vaccinations that he had already had and as a result had a very bad reaction with a 103+ fever, swelling and twitching. It was very scary and required a follow up trip to the doctor. After that, he had a titer test so we would not have this happen again.

How special that you were able to spend Jacob's first birthday as a family!

We received a copy of the vaccination and medical report before leaving Russia. It was a copy of what was put in the sealed envelope for the embassy.

Two different doctors decided to do blood tests on Blake that would 'spot check' for a couple of the vaccines. Those came back positive so they have decided not to redo every single one of them. We are doing Hep A and the chickenpox vaccine.

He is just beautiful!! Congrats...As for the vaccines. We are home a month from Kaluga and our Dr. reviewed the file and said the timing of them was right on (when administered) and the titers came back good-except for chicken pox so he will have to have that for his 4year check up (he is 3 1/2). Charlie even had flu shots. He didn't have the mennengitis one, either, but will have the booster at the 4 year as well--not so crutial now that he is over age 2 I understand. His TB was also clear, which is a miracle :)

Anyway, thrilled for you! He looks so sweet.

Happy First Birthday little man!! Yea - how cool that he was able to have a great 1st birthday!!

I did get a report (in cyrillic) of her medical files from Russia including vaccinations. The doc we had to see to leave the country translated it for me as well - she had had everything minus chicken pox shot. When they took blood at the hospital (tests) when we came back - I had them check the anti-body levels in her blood to see if the shots were either a) really given as said and b) strong enough (sometimes they'll get a too weak or expired shot and it's ineffective) but all came back ok!

omigosh is this the cutest boy who ever lived or what?! he's a love...

be careful about giving the same vaccinations again... if u r concerned about shots (& i'd say wait a while, but long story) getting titers as mentioned in a pp here can reveal all antibodies...

Hapy Birthday Jacob!!! What cute photos.

We did receive Daniel's entire medical and his original vaccination certificate. When our doctor drew blood for the normal checkup he checked everything else. We got out of one Hep shot and something else (can't remember) as his tighters came back okay. You could always go that route instead of repeating shots.

What a blessing that you celebrated Jacob's 1st birthday together!! Happy birthday!

We did receive some medical records and we did receive a listing of the vaccinations and the administration dates. I think our IA doc wants some of them redone, though...

Best wishes!

Yes we did get detailed report and the vaccination record. Our doctor copied them off to his records and the baby continued getting the shots he needed. There was no need to double vaccinate a child, they say.
Congratulations! He is absolutely a beautiful boy! You are so blessed!

We are having the titers (spelling) blood test for Jacob. Also I have asked the Doctor that he only have one or two shots per visit or none at all. 39 shots was what they thought my nephew might get before he turned four, what? There is no way I want them giving him 7 - 9 shots at once. Kinda a stickler about this.

Nope, we received nothing. The doctors just did it again to be on the safe side.
